Voted best Ball-Head by DP Review.
There is a newer and even better version of the GP Ball-Head, it is our new GXP Ball-head GXP Ballhead - 3 units in 1 World Class Quality Design (acratech.net)
It’s like getting 3 pieces of equipment all wrapped up in one beautiful and lightweight unit.
Our Acratech GP Ball-Head is uniquely designed to function as a Ball Head, a gimbal head, and a leveling panoramic head.
The Gimbal action will have you shooting action like a pro. The Gimbal feature works with any lens (up to 400mm F4.0) that has a tripod collar. The pin in the bottom of the ball and the sleeve on the stem of the ball is what creates a smooth pivot for the Gimbal.
Unscrew the quick release clamp and put it onto the bottom of the head and you are now ready to use the the GP Ball-Head to create level, single row panoramas. This eliminates the need to carry a separate leveling base in order to create accurate stitched panoramas, as you'll be able to pan parallel to the horizon even when using your tripod on rocky or uneven terrain.
All Acratech Ball-Heads are designed to be lightweight and rugged for the active outdoor photographer. The open structure lets moisture, dirt and debris fall through instead of being trapped inside a socket.
Available with our Arca Swiss style, knob or locking lever quick release clamp.
Camera quick release plates sold separately. Find your camera plate.

Acratech GP Lever Clamp
I bought the Acratech GP with Level Clamp about 3 weeks ago. I have been using it in doors so far. Just practicing with it on my tripod. Been very satisfied with it. I use it with a Feisol 3472LV tripod and have attached Nikon D750 with both a Nikon 28-300mm and Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8. It has performed great with no creep at all. It moves very smoothly. I have not yet tried out the gimbal head feature on it. The size and weight of the head is great.

GP Blallhead
A well engineered ball head. Fairly light even though it has a good load carrying capacity. It has a nice feel to it and the tension knob provides nice smooth control of the camera/lens.
