Arca-Swiss to Video Head Adapter
I have an ancient but very solid Bogen 3036 tripod with pan/tilt head and geared center column, which is an excellent studio performer. However, I wanted to adapt its proprietary hexagonal quick release plate to Arca-Swiss and the Acratech Head Adapter allowed me to do that quickly and perfectly. Yes, there may be "cheaper" ways to do this, but likely at the cost of quality. Knowing the Acratech product will hold $5,000+ of photographic gear safely and securely makes it by far the most economical choice! The head adapter is of the same super high quality as several Acratech Ball Heads and plates I own, and this review is as much about them as the Head Adapter. To me, Acratech products represent the highest of engineering and functional standards, exhibiting both Function AND Form. Acratech's out-of-box thinking separates them distinctly from more traditional (and very high end) ball head designs... ease of cleaning and less weight being among the distinctions; and I love the large easy- to-grip rubberized knobs that lock settings rigidly in place. My latest Acratech Ball head acquisition is the GXP, with the added function of easy conversion to a panoramic head with no need for a separate leveling base. This head caused me to relegate my RRS BH-55 head to a shelf. While the BH-55 is a very high quality head, I like the GXP much better. I have to admit one of my reasons is I simply like the way it looks! The GXP possesses, as do the other Acratech heads, a hard to achieve "engineering elegance" making it a work of art in its own right. Adding in that Acratech products are made in the USA, make them my go-to for products I need that they make.
